Chapter Eighteen

“YOU SLEPT WITH HER again. Good for you.”

“Easy for you to say, Julia, but I—” Blair paced the room, holding her head. “What am I doing? I’m getting too involved. I came here to regroup from a bad relationship—”

“And to finish a book,” Julia interrupted.

“Yes. I know. But now there’s Collins and how I feel about him and this place. I feel like my whole world is about to change and I don’t know what I should do.”

“Hey, I have an idea. Tomorrow is Friday. How about I throw some things in a bag and come and spend the weekend with you?”

“Really?”

“Sure. Let me come, I’ll meet these people, inhale some fresh air and then maybe I can give you a better perspective on things.”

Blair sat in the window seat and looked out. “If you can do it, Julia, I think that would be great.”

“Perfect. I have a meeting in the morning, so I’ll be there in time for cocktail hour. You do have cocktail hour?”

“I’ll make sure you have a cocktail hour. Thank you, Julia. I’m so happy you’re coming.”

Smiling all the way, Blair headed down to the dining room. Realizing she hadn’t heard from Carolyn or Haven about whether they would be there for breakfast, she quickly scanned the tables. Spotting Carolyn and Collins, her stomach flipped as she thought of the events of the previous evening.

“Good morning,” she said, as she approached the table.

“Jack.” Collins jumped up to hug her.

“Good morning, Blair.” Carolyn poured herself some coffee. “Collins was awake early, and so that’s why we’re here already.”

With Collins still wrapped around her waist, Blair struggled to pull the chair out.

“Just you two this morning?” she asked, sitting down as Collins finally let go and returned to his seat.

“Yes. We haven’t seen hide nor hair of Haven this morning and Ed was in the office early. Lots of reservations coming in for the weekend.”

“Speaking of that, my friend and agent, Julia, is coming tomorrow afternoon to stay with me for the weekend.”

“Isn’t that nice?” Carolyn patted Blair’s hand.

“I can’t wait for her to meet you all and show her around.”

“I have an idea. Why don’t you bring her over to the house Saturday night and we’ll have a barbecue?”

“Carolyn, that’s very nice of you, but I don’t want to impose. You’re going to have a busy weekend.”

“Nonsense. It will be easier on us to just throw some things on the grill after we get done in the office. Come Saturday, the fun is just checking people in, and the staff does that.”

“We can have hot dogs, Jack,” Collins whispered to her.

“Well, I can’t say no to that. Of course, we can help cook.”

“Not to worry about that, dear,” Carolyn said, shaking head. “That’s the beauty of having a resort kitchen. I’ll just go through and pick out what we need, and it will be brought to the house.”

“I hadn’t thought about that, but it is a very nice perk,” Blair leaned over to say to Carolyn.

They were finishing breakfast when Blair got a text.
